Kids at the Conservatorium of Music School Holiday Workshops 2025
Open Academy at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Structured workshops are based on the Orff-Schulwerk approach, Dalcroze and Kodaly methods and will include activities such as singing, imitation, movement, playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments, improvisation, storytelling and guided listening activities.
Participants only need to attend one workshop, as the material will be repeated the following day.
Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 3 - 4 years
Tuesday 20 January 2026 | 10 am
Wednesday 21 January 2026 | 11 am
This workshop will run for 50 minutes with tutor Simona Green. Youngsters will explore the musical concepts of pitch, beat, and tempo through creative play and a range of learning activities. Listening and motor skills will be engaged through echo singing, movement, imitation, playing percussion instruments, and musical games.
Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 4 - 5 years
Tuesday 20 January 2026 | 11 am
Wednesday 21 January 2026 | 12 pm
This workshop will run for 50 minutes with tutor Simona Green. Activities in this workshop will be similar to the workshop for 3 - 4-year-olds, but at a slightly faster pace and targeted to match the higher levels of the older participants. More complex rhythmic activities and listening exercises will be presented, including call-and-response singing and musical signal recognition.

Thursday 22 January 2026 | 1 - 4 pm
This workshop runs for 3 hours with tutor Adi Firth. Participants only need to attend one workshop, as the material will be repeated the following day.
Designed to provide extended activities for the slightly older age group, children will develop musical skills and learning through games and creative activities using singing, movement, active listening and playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments. Learn a tune on a xylophone, play rhythms on a drum and experiment with tone colours and sounds to enhance the story.

Wednesday 21 January 2026 | 9 am - 2 pm
Friday 23 January 2026 | 9 am - 2 pm
This workshop runs for 5 hours with tutor Adi Firth. Participants only need to attend one workshop, as the material will be repeated the following day.
Activities include pitch and rhythm work using tuned and untuned percussion instruments, active listening activities, and the opportunity to make your own instrument. There will be two short breaks for morning tea and lunch. Parents/guardians are welcome to drop off their children in the morning and return at 1.45 pm for a 'mini performance' of the children's activities from the workshop.
