Tucked away in the serene natural beauty of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, the Bobbin Head Nature Playground is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable day out for families. Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in nature, enjoy a picnic by the water, or let the kids run wild on an exciting playground, Bobbin Head has it all.

A visit to Bobbin Head is, in itself, a picture-perfect day out in nature. The sprawling National Park has so much to offer outdoorsy families - there are bush walks, picnics aplenty, boat rides, and nature-based attractions just to name a few - but today we'll just focus on the cool playground.

A Nature Lover's Paradise

Bobbin Head Nature Playground opened in September 2021 after briefly opening and then closing again at the end of 2020. Updates to the playground in 2021 were the result of a joint effort between NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and community feedback. What stands now is an authentic nature-based play space kids love. 

Features of the Playground

The Playground has been designed to encourage free, nature-based play and is adorned with plenty of natural elements that tie in beautifully with the natural surrounds of the National Park.

The first thing you'll notice is the whole floor of the playground is covered in sand, which the kids will love digging their feet into. Then there are the giant wooden poles just waiting to be scaled or navigated by brave adventurers. A large wooden cabana has imaginative play written all over it, as does the wooden log maze, and the cement tunnels provide excellent hiding spots. Bobbin Head Playground even has a cute mascot in the form of a giant platypus the littlies will love getting to know.

Location

Bobbin Head Playground is located on Apple Tree Bay Road in Mount Colah, which is roughly 30 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD.

You can access Apple Tree Bay Road from either Ku-ring-gai Chase Road or Bobbin Head Road. Simply drive through the check-in point at the start of the National Park and head down towards the river!
