A 24-metre tall installation comprised of 2,255 plastic 'oranges', Danling Xiao's Wastelend for the Mundane Matters movement demonstrates the world's plastic pollution and food waste epidemic.

Hanging from the ceiling at Customs House (it took 18 hours to install) and made from 120kg of marine debris from the Great Barrier Reef, the work implies that the weight of our environmental impact is on our shoulders. The alluring installation reminds the audience to reduce, reuse and recycle, with the optimistic orange of the spheres suggesting it's better late than never.

If the marine debris were able to be reworked into a piece of art, surely we can be more responsible when it comes to disposal of plastic.
