Get ready to Emerge this Spring! 

Following two Covid-impacted years, families can once again leap into Spring with renewed excitement. The much-loved Emerge Festival is back, with 39 days jam-packed with unmissable events from 1 September – 9 October. 

This year’s festival is bursting with exciting community events, offering something for everyone. 

Don’t miss the North Shore’s biggest street party, Chatswood StreetFair on Saturday 3 September, showcasing the best local emerging talent, more than 120 market stalls, live entertainment and food and drink – all in one place in the Chatswood CBD. 

There’s no better way to celebrate Willoughby's vibrant culture and community as Springtime blooms. Immerse yourself in shows, workshops, outdoor activities and more.

Festival Highlights for kids:

JERRAL PUPPET SHOWS | 4 September – 9 October  

Castle Cove Puppeteria Theatre

The Puppeteria Theatre presents the Jeral Puppets in a range of exciting and colourful puppet shows, perfect morning entertainment for young children and their parents. A program filled with familiar songs, stories and rhymes with unicorns, dinosaurs, teddy bears and farmyard friends will delight the kids! Recommended for ages 2+

PRESCHOOLERS BUSH SCRAMBLE | 14 & 15 September

Explosives Reserve, Cammeray Road Castle Cove

Spring is here and what better time than now to go on a walk in the bush. The weather is warm and the animals in the bush are buzzing with excitement. Bring your preschooler and find out why. We’ll walk a short section of this pretty reserve and sit down for story time. Recommended for ages 2+

Are We There Yet? | 15 & 16 September

The Concourse Chatswood

Join 8 year old Grace and her family on their adventurous and often funny expedition around Australia! Following CDP’s successful national tour of Magic Beach, Alison Lester AM’s classic book comes to life on stage, with songs, fun, (and quokkas!). 

Recommended for children aged 3-10 and their adults.

COME AND TRY ORIENTEERING | 24 September

Willoughby Leisure Centre

Orienteering combines a love of the outdoors with the challenge of finding your way with a map and compass. Orienteering caters to all fitness levels - from the casual walker to the elite athlete. You can participate individually or in a group - orienteering is an enjoyable outdoor family activity, where the kids can lead their parents on an ‘adventure’.

Don’t worry if you have never read a map or used a compass - the basic skills are easily learnt and experienced orienteers will be on hand to assist.There will be a number of courses to choose from from one to six kilometres, for beginners and young children to superfit adults. You can start anytime between the event times and most participants will complete the course within an hour.

Recommended for ages 6+

WORMS, SOIL AND COMPOSTING WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN | 24 September "BOOKED OUT"

Artarmon Parklands Community Garden, Burra Road

Join us for a fun hands-on workshop for kids to learn about composting, worms and the importance of soil. Ideal for children aged 6-10, this composting workshop will teach kids where their breakfast came from, the role of amazing soils and worms, the importance of recycling food waste at home and at school and a lot more. Recommended for ages 6+

THE BOX SHOW | 7 & 8 OCTOBER

The Concourse Concert Hall,Chatswood                 

A Junkyard Beats and Critical Stages Touring Production

In the hands of Junkyard Beats, ordinary household items are transformed into extraordinary musical instruments and unwanted junk comes alive.  Learn about sustainability with this high energy, imaginative, music-in-education performance that is accessible to any age and nationality. Recommended for ages 5+

POOL PARTY AND OPEN DAY | 9 October 12-4pm

Willoughby Leisure Centre 

Come and enjoy a free day of play in the pool at the Willoughby Leisure Centre. The tropical-themed fun starts at 12pm with an inflatable obstacle course, DJ, aqua classes, spin classes, free CPR awareness course and a free sausage sizzle!

Recommended for all ages
