Creative Thinking and Inventing is back at Vivid Sydney for their fourth year!

Kids learn by doing. Creative Thinking and Inventing is a fast-paced, hands-on workshop for 9 to 12 year-olds. The workshop explores human-centred design and design thinking. Children will uncover a problem and be guided through steps to invent a creative solution.

As part of the workshop, children will be introduced to the design thinking process and examples of its importance in our daily life. They will complete a full cycle of the process, where they will practice ‘soft skills’ such as interviewing, observing, reflecting on feedback and sketching as well as ‘hard skills’ such as prototyping.

Creative Thinking and Inventing for Kids is run as a series of structured activities where each step builds on a previous one. Each activity has a time limit of between 4 and 10 minutes. Children work in pairs and interact with their partner throughout the workshop. They will complete each exercise while being supported by professional creative problem solvers (human-centred designers from Designit) every step of the way.

At the end of the workshop, children take home a physical prototype of their invention and will understand more about the tools for creative problem-solving in their everyday life. They can also choose to accept a take-home design challenge so they can practice their newly-acquired skills.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
