Attention NSW Parents: Fee Help For Preschool Costs is Now Available For The First Time

Some great news has been reported this week, with the announcement of the Affordable Preschool initiative for 2023, offering fee relief for families with children in early education.

It's all a part of the Start Strong preschool fee relief aiming to alleviate some of the costs to families by providing a subsidy for early childhood education and care. And thank goodness, because our families need any financial relief we can get right now.

Paying for childcare, especially for multiple children under 5, is almost the equivalent of paying rent on a second home! Here's what the fee relief will mean for families.

What does this mean for families?

3-5-year-old children in community, mobile and public preschools - fee relief continued into 2023

All children attending a community, mobile or department preschool will now continue to receive fee relief from 2022 into 2023.

Families with 3-5-year-old children in community and mobile preschools will save up to $4,220. All children in department preschools will receive 5 days of affordable preschool each fortnight.

4 and 5-year-old preschoolers in long day care - preschool fee relief introduced for the first time

And in some VERY welcome news, preschool fee relief is being introduced for 4 and 5-year-old children in long daycare for the first time.

A child turning 4 before 31 July 2023 may be eligible for a savings of up to $2,110 per year on eligible preschool programs.

In addition, most long-day care families will qualify for Australian Government Child Care Subsidies.

How do you access preschool fee relief for 2023?

To access the preschool fee relief, families must complete a declaration and consent form and provide it to their child's service - similar to the process undertaken to receive the CCS.
