Free Wine: This Is Not A Drill!

  • Parents Only

The stuff of thirsty mum’s dreams is now a reality, thanks to a winery in central Italy! The town of Abruzzo now offers a completely free, 24/7 red wine fountain for travellers and locals to enjoy.

On A Pilgrimage Route

But why would anybody be so generous? It has been created by the Dora Sarchese vineyard together with the not-for-profit promotions team of the pilgrimage route ‘Cammino di San Tommaso’. The pilgrimage is a 225km journey from Rome to Ortona where the remains of the apostle St. Thomas are believed to be buried. If there were any time to get spiritual- we think now could be it! Vineyards in the area, according to delicious, have been operating since the 6th century BC, so we’re pretty certain it wouldn’t be a bad drop.

Behave Yourself!

The fontana di vino is made from red Montepulciano wine grapes, and according to the winery’s Instagram post, is not for ‘drunkards’ or ‘louts’. We’ll behave, we promise! The fountain can be found in a room designed to look like a wooden wine barrel, flowing out of a button-operated tap and into a stone basin- and of course, straight into your glass. It was designed, according to The Daily Mail, from recycled materials by a local architect, Rocco Valentini. Sustainable and delicious- a cause we can definitely support!
