Spring has well and truly sprung, and while I love the idea of dusting off the winter cobwebs and lingering lurgies with the proverbial spring clean, the actual all-hands-on-deck cleaning part is far less appealing. The dusting, the scrubbing and, most laborious of all, the vacuuming!

Plus, dust is a permanent pain point in our abode, settling into every nook and cranny, making the elimination task endless, and constantly triggering my teenage daughter’s dust mite allergy.

So when the ECOVACS DEEBOT N20 Plus came into my life, boasting the superior suction I craved with minimal human intervention, it sounded almost too good to be true.

But that's the beauty of technology. And this little gadget delivered.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N20 Plus is my first foray into the realm of robotic vacuum cleaners (or any high-tech robotic equipment for that matter) and it was somewhat daunting at first.

After unpacking the weighty box and finding my new little friend a cosy corner of the kitchen to call home, I plugged it in to charge, scanned the QR code, downloaded the ECOVACS app and leapt head first into this brave new world.

Thankfully, the ECOVACS app made the set-up simple, and once connected to the WiFi and given the go-ahead, the DEEBOT set out on its first adventure, mapping out the floor plan of our home.

Its supersonic sensors detected floor transitions (from wood to carpet to tile), walls and edges, and all manner of obstacles. It navigated effortlessly under furniture, muscling its way around chairs and tables and over ridges and bumps, and I watched the DEEBOT map out our home with impressive accuracy via the app.

Hands-Free Cleaning Magic

Once the mapping was done, the real work began!

For my exciting first run, I put the DEEBOT N20 Plus to the ultimate test selecting its most high-powered customisable settings - maximum suction with 2 x cleaning passes - for a thorough spring clean. The real-time map displayed on my phone showed me exactly where it was cleaning, how many square metres it had covered, and how long it had been running.

Already, a strange sense of liberation was swirling. While the DEBOOT autonomously cleaned the floors with a satisfying hum, I was pottering around the house, doing things that did not involve wrangling an unruly vacuum cleaner around. Total liberation, though I confess to being too intrigued and awestruck to look away for too long, watching the vacuum weave its way through our home, devouring the dirt on every surface and crevice.

After about an hour of heavy-duty cleaning, having exhausted most of its battery life, the DEEBOT automatically returned to its station to recharge and offload the fruits of its labour. One of the best features of the DEEBOT is the PureCyclone Technology that wondrously removes the dust and debris from the vacuum and into the bagless Auto-Empty Station - and you can see this in action. Magic! The bag-free design is also a cost-saver as there are no consumables required - the chamber empties straight into the bin eliminating the need for conventional dust bag replacements, a win for the environment too.

The volume of dust and debris collected after that first clean brought both shock and relief. Apart from capturing what we could visibly see scattered across our floor, the DEEBOT's 8,000Pa suction power consumed countless invisible dust and dirt particles embedded in our carpets.
