This winter, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is set to dazzle Melbourne with an extraordinary display from the sands of time. In partnership with the British Museum, the NGV presents Pharoah: Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® at the NGV, a monumental exhibition that delves deep into 3000 years of ancient Egyptian art and culture.

Prepare to be transported back to the days of the pharaohs with more than 500 stunning works. From towering sculptures and grand architectural pieces to intricate temple statuary, exquisite jewellery, and an assortment of papyri, coffins, and other funerary treasures, this showcase is a treasure trove of historical riches.

The exhibition unfolds across seven thematic sections, each illuminating the diverse roles and duties of the pharaohs—from high priests and heads of administration to leaders of the army and royal family. Discover how these all-powerful rulers, believed to be of divine origin, protected Egypt and maintained universal order from the 1st Dynasty around 3000 BCE until the Roman conquest in 30 BCE.
