Barton Park: South Sydney❜s Brand New Recreational Precinct Opens

New playgrounds and parks are always a winner in our book, and Barton Park in Banksia is absolutely no exception. Brimming with options for the whole family, this incredible space has undergone a jaw-dropping upgrade and is now ready to be enjoyed by the local community! 

Bayside Council has transformed this space into a vibrant hub for both active and leisurely pursuits, all while preserving the natural beauty of the wetland areas along Cooks River and Muddy Creek.

Barton Park: South Sydney's Brand New Recreational Precinct Opens

With three full-size grass soccer fields, four tennis courts, multipurpose courts, and walking and cycle paths, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this sprawling public space. Whether you're into organised sports, family outings, birdwatching, or simply taking a stroll, this precinct has it all.

The Brand-new Playground 

The new playspace at Barton Park Recreational Precinct is set to be a hit with kids of all ages and stages. Swings, slides, plenty of climbing structures and trampolines await—as well as plenty of open space for self-guided play. We can't wait! 

Barton Park Recreational Precinct Opening Day

*Update as of 3 May: At this stage, all football matches are going ahead as scheduled. The official proceedings will take place at 6pm. While food trucks will still be available, all entertainment and activities are postponed and will be rescheduled for an end-of-season event.*

Join in the fun on Saturday, 4 May to celebrate this epic opening. The day will be packed with fun activities for the whole family, including a League One Women's game between St George FC and Sutherland Shire FA, family-friendly games, a ninja run, jumping castles, face painting, and even miniature train rides.

As the afternoon rolls into the evening, get ready for official proceedings starting at 5.15 pm, featuring a marching parade, speeches from special guests, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. And the excitement doesn't stop there – at 6.30 pm, catch a match between St George FC and Sydney Olympic FC in the National Premier Leagues NSW Men's competition.

There will also be the chance to grab some grub from food trucks offering coffee, ice cream, hot food, and more throughout the event. 

Special Guests—Meet Bluey and Bingo!

Taking place at 2.15 pm, 3.15 pm, 4.15 pm and 5.15 pm on Opening Day, guests will have the chance to come face to face with everyone's favourite TV duo, Bluey and Bingo, and enjoy the 'Bluey Experience' on the courts.
