Summer School Holiday Workshops At Penrith Regional Gallery

Get creative these January school holidays at Penrith Regional Gallery and enjoy art making in the studio.

Workshops are inspired by the theme: Summer Exhibition Suite 2019, The Ideal Home.

All art materials are supplied. Wear old clothes and bring a snack. 

Recycled Weaving
After a short tour of artist Blake Griffiths’ artworks, children will head to the studios to create a colourful woven creation using recycled plastics, string and fabric.

Kaleidoscope Home
Explore the lounge room gallery, before heading back to the studios to create your own magical kaleidoscope ‘home’ using, paint, paper, and a few tricks (shh… it is a secret). Artworks will be framed ready to display at home.

Animation Transformation
Jump into the world of stop-motion animation these school holidays. In this workshop children will work in pairs to create a short, fun animation that explores your Ideal Home inspired the Gallery’s summer exhibition.

Cool Clay Vases
Get messy these school holidays. After a quick tour of the Ideal Home, children will have fun using their hands and imagination to sculpt, and mould clay into a quirky vase.

Watercolour Houses
Visit the gallery to learn about perspective and composition. Children will then head to the studio to paint a modernist building inspired by Eliza Gosse’s art and Ancher House, using pencil, watercolour and paper. Artworks will be framed and ready to hang at home.

Comic Animation
Spend the morning animating your comic strip. Inspired by artist Cathy O’Donnell and the objects in Ideal Home children will use a range of materials like newspaper, textas, magazines and the gallery Ipads to tell a short story the comic book way.

Tiny Toy Tents
In this workshop, children and parents will work together to reinterpret Victoria Garcia’s Earthing Tent. Children will use simple printmaking techniques to decorate their ideal tent for their tiny toys using cardboard, foam, paint and simple printmaking tools.
