One of China’s most exciting young artists, Sun Xun, is showcasing his talents at the MCA until mid-October. The centrepiece of his solo exhibition is his major new work, that has been created especially for the MCA. The 40-metre-long painting is crafted on ultra-delicate bark paper and features a series of woodcuts.

Entitled ‘Maniac Universe’, the scroll-like painting boasts phosphorescent elements that glow white and purple and ultraviolet lights. The piece is made up of oversized paintings that depict a linear procession of animals along the bark paper, including a bat, a chicken, a lobster, a horse, and a grasshopper; reminiscent of the Chinese Zodiac.

This striking artwork has to be seen to be believed in terms of both size and intricacy, and it's on show until the 14th October on Level 1, North Gallery.
