Handmade Universe: From Craft to Code and the Spaces Between

Handmade Universe is a brand-new exhibition at the State Library of Victoria and will take pride of place in the Victoria Gallery until February 2023.

Celebrating the endless possibilities of creation, Handmade Universe is the perfect outing for creative kids to discover and understand the reasons why they find crafts so fascinating!

Contemporary artists present newly commissioned works to sit alongside rare and remarkable items from State Library Victoria and other collections. Many of the collection items have never been on public display before and will give visitors a sense of surprise at what you would expect to encounter at a Library.

From artworks to crafts, knitting, coding, embroidery and more, Handmade Universe explores the many different formats incredible crafts can take. Mandy Nicholson’s textile work Dharangalk Biik I Star Country and Sarah Spencer’s knitted star map Stargazing are at the centre of Handmade Universe alongside other incredible creations from numerous artists - you can view the entire catalogue online.
