New Pop-Up Hotel At Cockatoo Island

By Melissa Fine, ellaslist

Keen for a little romantic getaway? Look no further than Contained Sydney, a pop-up hotel and holiday hub that's travelled all the way from Perth, landing at Cockatoo Island. From cosy boutique accommodation in a converted shipping container, to fine dining, drinks and a plunge pool, Contained provides the ultimate city escape.

Accommodation

Stay in one of the re-purposed shipping containers for an indulgent hotel experience like no other. Cosy and industrial-chic, the two bespoke suites are both situated by the water, so you can sit back with a glass of vino and enjoy the view from your room or the patio. Along with the plush Queen bed, you'll have all the amenities that come with a luxury hotel experience.

Dining

Treat yourselves to a South American-meets-traditional-Australian-fusion feast and cocktails at Don Tapa, which has been set up at Cockatoo Island as a part of the pop-up. Dishes are designed to share, and all the fresh produce comes from the Urban Farm onsite.

Drinks

Head to Young Henry's for pre or post-dinner drinks (or both!), where Alex Retief of Sydney's Urban Winery has curated a selection of NSW wines that have been flying under the radar. Boutique spirits from Archie Rose Distillery are also served here, along with Young Henry's iconic Newtowner and Summer Hop Ale - so everyone will be happy here. The reclaimed timber furniture at the outdoor bar adds the finishing touch.

The Pool

As a hotel guest, you'll have VIP guest access to the container plunge pool, so you can cool off with a quick a dip, or lay back in the water as you please...enough said!

The Price

For a weeknight stay (Monday through Thursday), it's $305 a night. Or if you have the weekend free, it's $385 a night Friday through Sunday, with a two-night minimum stay...tempting! Although on the pricier side, this pop-up would be perfect for a special occasion with your partner, or just because. Click here for more details and booking enquiries. After a more family-friendly staycation? Cockatoo Island also offers Glamping experiences, which we reviewed here
