Winter Family Farm Stays Near Sydney With A Fireplace

Fresh air, a sky full of stars, adorable nursery animals… and the icing on the cake - a cracking fire place to keep you warm in winter! These are our favourite farm stay experiences with fireplaces - all just a drive away from Sydney.

Bilpin Country Lodge – Farmstay and Bed & Breakfast

Bilpin Country Lodge in the Blue Mountains region makes for a cosy winter getaway. In the cold months they have a beautiful log fire in the lounge room. Outside there’s lots of space for the kids to run around, there’s a game room, canoeing, hiking and of course a variety of animals to feed and pat.

Peacehaven Country Cottages & Farmstay

A stunning self-contained country cottage retreat and farm stay on the Mid North Coast of NSW near the Myall Lakes, Forster and Barrington Tops. They even offer free pony rides for the kids! Their Tranquility Cottage has a log fire and a spa bath with candles, aromatic oil bubble bath and bath salts.

Barcoos Farmstays Bathurst

Barcoos Farmstays Bathurst is a genuine working farm with loads of merino sheep, breeding cows, working dogs and horses, including ponies big and small, alpacas to hand feed, a donkey with manners, a pig that does tricks for treats, chickens, ducks and often poddy lambs. In winter they have a slow combustion wood heater in the Farmhouse, with delightful red embers to gaze at and also an outdoor campfire area. There’s loads of hands-on interactive family fun and kids will love the farm activities, led pony rides and a sled or sulky ride pulled by the resident Clydesdale horse, Barcoos Barn has two self-contained units, a Farmhouse, plus caravan, motorhome and camping facilities.

Mowbray Park Farmstay Holidays – Picton

At Mowbray Park your stay includes accommodation, all day activities and three meals a day, plus you can access the whole farm. To keep you warm they have fireplaces in some of the buildings, combustion fires in others and the the most magnificent outdoor fireplace. Activities include horse riding, tennis, swimming, table tennis, canoeing, archery, boomerang throwing, sheep shearing, whip cracking, bush dances, campfires with damper making, farmyard activities including feeding the cattle, collecting eggs and milking the cows.

Ashmar Farm Stay – Gloucester

You’ll have this gorgeous self-contained heritage cottage all to yourself so you can experience authentic family farm living! Get started at Ashmar Farm by milking a cow, collecting farm eggs, feeding the animals and bush walking through the ancient cycads. During the cooler months make yourself warm in front of the crackling wood fire. For kids, there’s lots to see and do at the farm, and plenty of wide open spaces to play in. They’ll learn all about farm animals and where food comes from.

Kookaburra Cottage Farmstay – Port Stephens

At Kookaburra Cottages there is a farmhouse, cottages and cabins to choose from for your overnight stay and a daily animal feeding schedule that includes cow milking and feeding of the calf and cows, a tractor ride to feed the pig, then the donkey, goats, alpacas, sheep and duck island. Their cottages offer wood fires and your own private jacuzzi bathtub. The farm is also close to beaches and tourist attractions around Port Stephens and Nelson Bay.

Ocean & Earth Farmstay – Limeburners Creek

Ocean & Earth Farmstay is a beautiful property surrounded by natural bushland brimming with native wildlife and friendly farm animals. The loft style farmhouse has a huge open fireplace. You get the whole farmhouse to yourself so you can completely relax – but there’s plenty of activities to keep kids entertained! While away the hours canoeing, fishing, yabbying, feeding resident farm animals such as horses, cows, alpacas and chooks, bush walking and bird watching. Plus, there’s spectacular stargazing and a bonfire on Saturday nights!

Morvern Valley Country Cottages- Bundanoon

Morvern Valley is host-free so a whole luxurious cottage is yours! Each cottage has its own BBQ area, parking, fenced private gardens, and even its own hen house for egg collecting fun. For warmth you can gather around an open log fire (with sturdy safety screens) and all wood provided. Children are thrilled to meet the animals including ponies, miniature horses, donkeys, sheep, chickens, ducks, giant geese, alpacas and other farm animals who are friendly, and love a pat, and to be hand fed.

Dusodie Holiday Farm – Dungog

Why we like it: Dusodie Farm is set on the banks of the Chichester River, in the foothills of the Chichester State Forest, this a true farm stay experience, with plenty of farm animals and wildlife for all to enjoy. They have a slow combustion fire in both the self contained cottage and the cabin that looks down to the river. You can also have campfires. A great family getaway, where parents can relax while kids enjoy the cubby, sandpit or trampoline, hand feeding farm animals, and the freedom of a country lifestyle. Wake to the sounds of abundant bird life and inhale the crisp, clean country air.
