Sweet, Sweet News! The Big Pineapple Is Getting A Revamp

As you well know by now, we love anything to do with Australia’s iconic ‘Big Things’. Whether it’s Queensland’s new watermelon, anything to do with Coffs Harbour’s big banana or checking out Tamworth’s big guitar, we’re suckers for any news about the collection of oversized inanimate objects that are peppered throughout the country.

So, you can imagine our glee when we heard that the space around the Sunshine Coast’s big pineapple is set to undergo a whopping $150 million dollar revamp. As well as viewing the 16-metre high fibreglass tropical fruit, you'll soon be able to combine your viewing with a zoom down a zip line, a dip in a water park, a few sips of beer at a craft brewery and even a luxurious nights stay. What more could you possibly ask for!

The New Additions

Because you just can't beat a fun, adrenaline-fuelled outdoor activity, The TreeTop Challenge's new course that's set to land in the vicinity of the big pineapple will be a big drawcard for visiting families and will take half a day to complete. In tandem with the water park, it will form part of an ‘adventure precinct’ which we’re willing to bet will be heaving during school holidays.

There’s also going to be a new major concert event space landing across The Big Pineapple's 170-hectare site, which paves the way for many more events like the Big Pineapple Music Festival. A new food hub is also set to feature new cafes, restaurants and the new craft brewery.

Stay The Night

In order to truly soak up all of the new features and enjoy the originals (yup, the good news is that the Wildlife HQ Zoo, heritage-listed train and of course the Big Pineapple itself are staying put), there will soon be the option to glamp, or to stay in an eco-resort, a hotel or an RV park. Choices, choices!
