A Wisteria Wonderland Takes Over This Sydney Park Every Spring

  • All Ages

September in Sydney means spring and spring means flowers! Jacarandas, cherry blossoms, and jasmine fill the air with gorgeous colours and the sweet smell of the end of winter. Spring is certinly the time to stop and smell the roses, or the Wisteria if you're visiting Muston Park.

If you, like us, love exploring the beautiful outdoors and soaking up the natural beauty of flowers while the kids burn off some energy, then you’re going to want to check out the fabulous florals on display at Muston Park – get your cameras ready!

Muston Park is an adorable little playground in Chatswood on Sydney’s North Shore and combines two of our favourite things: a playground to keep the kids occupied and some of the most stunning flowers we’ve ever seen.

If you’re visiting Muston Park, it’s likely for a playground outing with the kids, but this playground just happens to have something rather special for us parents too (and no, it’s not coffee!) – a magical Wisteria Wonderland, which we’ll get to in a minute.

A day out at Muston Park playground has something for everyone. The fully fenced playground is on the smaller side, but the adjacent park also offers plenty of space to run around, barbecue facilities, picnic tables, public toilets, and a picturesque bridge crossing over Scotts Creek (which runs through the centre of the park).

Features of Muston Park playground include:

  • Swings
  • A basket swing
  • Mega rocketship with slide
  • Sensory elements
  • Water pumps
  • Sandpit
  • Mars rover
  • Trike track.

And now for the pièce de résistance: Muston Park's Wisteria Walkway. The Wisteria tunnel winds its way along the edge of the park and transforms into a purple palace every year in September when the gorgeous Wisteria takes over the wooden pergola.

For those who are unfamiliar with Wisteria, the striking purple plant is a deciduous climber that flowers in Australia in spring (around mid-September) and will fill the air with whimsical purple blooms, a wonderful perfume, not to mention one of the best spots to snap an incredible photo!

Every spring, Muston Park is flooded with families and photogs, all keen to get a snap of the incredible Wisteria Wonderland while it lasts. Kids will love winding their way through the florals and imagining they're in a faraway, secret world, so take them for a visit after they've burnt some energy in the playground.

Muston Park is located at 375-389 Penshurst Street in Chatswood.
