Lady Marmalade Cafe Review

  • All Ages

Lady Marmalade cafe is just five minutes from my house so I drive past it a lot, and every time I go by I see crowds of people spilling out onto the footpath, socialising and/or waiting for tables. As someone who generally refuses to line up for anything (especially my morning coffee when I haven't yet had my...morning coffee), I hadn't really considered going there but my hairdresser raved about the place so many times I eventually decided one Sunday morning to head over and try my luck.

Lo and behold, when my partner and I arrived (kid-free on this occasion), there was a delightful table for two outside, so we sat and enjoyed the winter sunshine as our coffee orders were swiftly taken and brought to us before we could say double macchiato.

The service was friendly and our waiter knew everything about the food. When our orders came, my potato and herb croquettes were fluffy on the inside and fluffy on the outside - and accompanied by spinach, eggs and a delicious pumpkin sauce. I asked for a side of bacon and pretty much literally got a whole side of a pig - it was huge! (But I didn't leave any behind.)

My partner and I loved our experience so much we came back the following week with our kids, who all proceeded to order Lady Marmalade's famous pancakes. This is not hyperbole - these things are legendary, and just took the top spot in The Courier-Mail's top 10 pancakes in Brisbane list.

We're talking fluffy blueberry ricotta pancakes with maple syrup, fresh blueberries, lemon curd and brown butter ice cream - topped with a delighful fluff of Persian fairy floss that will rock your world. (I don't like sugary treats much but it tasted exactly like Turkish delight and was delicous.)

I wasn't overly hungry on this occasion so ordered the granola, which was served with a choice of regular or coconut yoghurt (I went coconut), and a veritable cornucopia of fresh berries and fruit. Delicious and light, it really hit the spot.

Lady Marmalade says they produce their produce locally wherever they can, and use organic as much as possible. They make most of their items in-house, to order with love and care. Oh, and bonus: most menu items can be make gluten-free so just ask your waiter.

My whole family is now hooked so Lady Marmalade is on our local must-visit list.
