ellaslist Reviews: Dive into Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre

  • All Ages

With three kids, an outing to the pool can be a stressful experience - but I'll be bringing all my kids back to Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

My 3-year-old told me that Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre had the "best pool ever". With the attentive lifeguards, the excellent facilities and the aqua play pool, I can confirm and agree that the experience did not disappoint.

Enjoying the "best pool ever".

Last week, my 3-year-old and I explored Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre. As soon as we walked in, I noticed that everything was clean, new, and kid-friendly. There was easy access and readily available street parking. You can even claim a discount on your parking when using the centre.

The Pools

Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre has not one but four incredible pools.

The first pool we saw was the indoor 25m heated pool, with an impressive moveable floor and plenty of lanes available for every swimming pace. Walkers, paddlers, lap swimmers - everyone was welcome here.

The outdoor heated pool.

The second pool was an outdoor heated 50m pool. The third was a hydrotherapy pool where swimming lessons are (more about swimming lessons below).

The Pièce de résistance was the fourth pool- the aqua play pool.

This pool has three slides, a massive tipping bucket and multiple sprayers. The aqua play pool caters for all ages, and we noticed the big kids were fans of the giant yellow waterslide.

My 3-year-old was in heaven! His favourite activity was the sprayers, all cleverly designed to control the children from spraying any 'dry' adults walking past. He could still stand up in the deepest section of the pool, which both of us appreciated.

The cleverly designed sprayers.

The Crèche

It was a pleasure to meet the fully qualified childcare professionals who supervise the crèche. Located in the middle of the centre with a window view over the aqua pool, the kids were all having a lovely time. They were making the most of the toys, cubby house, kitchen corner, and there was even a TV.

The crèche is available Monday – Friday from 8 am-1 pm for 1-2 hours.

Did someone say Kid-Free Time?

So much fun was had at the centre's creche.

Swimming Lessons

The swimming lessons are in the hydrotherapy pool and separate from the aqua play area, meaning no distractions for the little ones! Signing up for swimming lessons includes four weeks of free access during the summer holiday break.

The centre is also home to Swim Champs, a water safety program for children under 18 with a disability that helps instil water safety and confidence.

There is a separate change room and facilities if you need to duck in and out for a swimming lesson without passing the aqua play. I know how hard it can be to walk past a pool like this without a kid wanting to jump in for a splash.

Fantastic changeroom facilities.

My kids attend swimming lessons at our local pool, but I'd be more than happy to drive the extra 15 minutes for these lessons and to use the facilities here.

The Gym

The gym is just as impressive as the rest of the centre. Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre had all the latest cardio equipment, an outdoor training circuit, a spin studio with 30 bikes, three fitness rooms for group exercise, yoga and Zumba, and a reformer Pilates studio.

The more good news? They offer a 360 Membership – with access to six city pools and fitness centres.

The state of the art gym.

The Café

After our swim, my three-year-old and I enjoyed a delicious muffin and coffee at the café. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. There are plenty of healthy options and, most importantly, great coffee.

Changerooms

The was a generous amount of changerooms throughout the centre—notably, family change rooms, Cabanas, lockers, toilets everywhere, close to each pool.

Accessibility

Each pool has ramp access, railings and a hoist.

I was highly impressed with everything Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre offered. All year round, hours of entertainment for all ages- we will definitely be back with my three boys in tow.
