Traversing several acres, the Chinese Garden of Friendship is an oasis of calm and beauty in the heart of busy Darling Harbour. You and the kids will step into another world and experience the natural beauty, architecture and culture of one of the only Chinese gardens outside of Asia. Immerse yourself in the stunning landscape featuring waterfalls, lakes, exotic plants and hidden stone pathways.  Follow meandering pathways to really enjoy the tranquillity of trickling waterfalls, small ponds and lush plantings.

Instead of flowers and planted gardens, wild aspects of nature are recreated in artfully designed landscapes that feature waterfalls, mountains, lakes and forests. Exploring the Chinese Garden is a journey of discovery: there are many details to be observed and only a part of the Garden is visible at a time. The Chinese Gardens is unlike any park your family will visit in Australia and children can lose themselves for hours in the maze-like grounds and mystical atmosphere. Ellaslist Opinion: The Chinese Gardens are a perfect place for mums and bubs to relax on a picnic blanket- the peaceful environment really does seem to soothe the little ones. Toddlers, pre-schoolers and older children will love exploring the Garden’s twists and turns and discovering hidden waterfalls and ponds full of fish.

For a total cultural excursion, combine this family outing with lunch and shopping in nearby Chinatown. Every restaurant we have visited in the area welcomes children with open arms.

Facilities: The traditional Chinese Teahouse within the grounds is a lovely place for a quiet cup of Jasmine tea and a light meal. Chinatown and Darling Harbour are also full of child friendly restaurants and Tumbalong Park is a great place for a picnic. Due to traditional stonework and paving, some parts of the walkway are rocky or uneven. While pathways and pavilions in the lower garden are suitable for prams, the stairs and rocky pathways in the higher parts of the garden may be difficult to access.

Getting There: Darling Harbour is a short walk from the city. You can also catch a ferry to King Street Wharf or hop on the monorail or light rail to Darling Harbour.
