If the closest your little city slicker has been to a farm is a petting zoo at one of Sydney’s urban markets or fairs, then a visit to family friendly Calmsley Hill City Farm is an absolute must. Located in Abbotsbury, 40 minutes out of Sydney, the farm is a place where the whole family can get up close to a range of native and farmyard animals-you can do everything from milk a cow to feed a kangaroo! There is even sheep shearing, tractor rides and a stock whip show to keep you and the littlies entertained. The farm also offers a unique and really low cost kids birthday party package.
Located on over 400 acres, there is oodles of space for kids to run free in the beautiful grounds. This is a rare and wonderful opportunity for children to get a taste of life on a farm without having to travel for hours to get there.
Ellaslist opinion: A 40 minute car drive takes you a million miles away from Sydney city’s hustle and bustle. This both an educational and really fun family outing that caters to toddlers, pre-schoolers, older children and grown ups alike. It’s a great lesson for the kids to discover that eggs and milk don’t just come from the supermarket shelves and there are loads of interesting shows and demonstrations all day long.
Admission: Adult: $20.00, Child: $12.00, Under 3s Free, Family pass (2 adults/3 children) $60.00, Annual family pass: $240 .00 (2 Adults and up to 3 children)
Facilities: Calmsley Hill City Farm is really geared toward families so it is very pram friendly and baby change facilities are available. Free electric BBQs are available so bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy the chance to relax in the excellent surrounds. There is also a kiosk available for take away food.

Went there today with 1 and 4 year old and loved it! Such a nice day out. They have lots of different shows and events during the day including feed the animals, tractor ride, milking a cow, sheepdog show, how to crack a whip and shearing a sheep. The kids got to have a go at most things which they loved. It is a small farm but perfectly formed for a great day out. We took our own picnic and it wasn’t too busy and will definitely go back.

i went there on the weekend and my 3yr old loved it. fed the chooks, milked a cow, petted wallabies (complete w joeys) & fed baby rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, lambs etc. the 15-20min tractor ride was icing on the cake.
you get a real sense that this place is a working farm where all the animals are well cared for – unlike some of the other ‘farms’ in the metro sydney area!
i’d recommend ringing prior to going to see if any school groups are booked in – we were practically the only ones there on the day which was fantastic, but they said they get v busy term-time w school groups.
also definitely take a packed lunch. the cafe was closed when we were there so we were thankful to have heaps of food with us. maybe closed on weekdays?
great day out.
